Old Tilman

I love to read, and I've immersed myself in the world of Honor Harrington (written by David Weber) lately. It's a great military sci-fi story, centered around the adventures of Honor Harrington, a navy starship captain. While reading the books, I really wanted to do something to show my love for them, and I latched onto the idea of designing a label for Honor's favorite beer. So, without further ado, here's my design for Old Tilman.

And here's an ad for Old Tilman, just because I was having so much fun with the project.

I made the labels and bottlecap in Illustrator. I made the ad (including the beer bottle) in Photoshop.

A few random notes: The date 1471 is actually about 3574 according to our calendar. Dating in the book starts over when the first colony ship leaves Earth in 2103. The three stars in a triangle represent the three planets of the original Star Kingdom of Manticore, and are part of the insignia for an admiral in the Royal Navy.

  1. Nicole,

We're looking for a few good women... in the world of Honor Harrington!

I saw your *great* Old Tilman ads (kudos to you!) and that you are an Honor Harrington fan. There is a fan club for all things Honorverse - the Royal Manticoran Navy. I was wondering if you'd be interested? Find us on Facebook - tRMN.

Also, I was wondering if you would be interested in letting us use your images in our tRMN Second Fleet party room in the form of a few posters and a few beer bottle labels. We are a non-profit group, and no money would be made in the use of your great graphics. But it would help a vision of an RMN ship and Dempsey's come true.

I'd be pleased to talk with you more at my Facebook page at Elisa Randall, or at the tRMN site.

    Many thanks,
    E. Randall

  2. May I add to this I have our Facebook page name incorrect. The website is trmn.org. The Facebook page is RMN Second Fleet. :)

  3. I'm in the midst or writing a homebrew recipe to replicate Old Tilman's, any objection to me using your design for the labels?
